Our Teachers


Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche is the founder of Modern Kadampa Buddhism. He is a world-renowned meditation master who holds the very essence of Buddha’s teachings in his heart. Venerable Geshe-la transmits this profound wisdom and compassion to the people of the modern world in very practical ways through the extremely accessible methods of modern Kadampa Buddhism, which he introduced.

General Spiritual Director

Gen-la Kelsang Dekyong, is the General Spiritual Director of NKT-IKBU and Resident Teacher and Special Teacher Training Programme Teacher at Manjushri KMC, the mother center of modern Buddhism. She has been a student of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche for over 30 years, sincerely training under his guidance in all aspects of modern Buddhism. Gen-la is recognized as a fully qualified Buddhist Teacher of both Sutra and Tantra.

Deputy Spiritual Director

Gen-la Kelsang Jampa is the Deputy Spiritual Director of NKT-IKBU and the Resident Teacher at IKRC Grand Canyon. He has studied under Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche and taught internationally for many years and is greatly admired for his warm personality and clear, inspiring teachings.

Western US National Spiritual Director

Gen Kelsang Rigpa, an American Buddhist monk, is the Western US National Spiritual Director for the New Kadampa Tradition and is also the Resident Teacher at  KMC Hollywood. Gen Rigpa’s heartfelt and practical teachings are presented with warmth and humor, making them accessible to everyone. He is a close disciple of Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, having received lineage blessings and oral transmissions directly from him.

Resident Teacher

Kadam Heather Rocklin is Geshe Kelsang’s representative in Portland and a full time teacher at Mahasiddha Center. Her teachings are heartfelt and presented with clarity and warmth that makes them accessible to everyone.

Heather teaches meditation classes for everyone in Portland and surrounding areas, as well as classes in the committed study programs: the Foundation Program and Teacher Training Program.

Eugene Branch Teacher

Kelsang Milob has been practicing Kadampa Buddhism for many years, both as a lay and ordained practitioner. Her heartfelt teachings reflect her sincere faith in Buddha’s teachings on compassion and wisdom. She is currently teaching a class that is welcome to all in Eugene.

Milob is currently studying on the correspondence Teacher Training Program with Kadampa Meditation Center Washington, where she studied for many years.
